crisis of the islamic republic is shown in these comments and is shown in these jokes that people are making and they are happy. but at the other side, at the state run media and i would say propaganda, they are showing prayers. they are showing, they are asking people, actually, to pray for ebrahim raisi, as they have done before for the death of ayatollah khamenei. there is no solid and official comments at the moment, but there are a lot of unofficial talks and rumours going on. we received reports from a trusted source close to the office of the supreme leader that you could

not confirm immediately that his death, i mean, the death of ebrahim raisi, and the islamic republic is figuring out how to publish the news and how actually to prepare themselves for the aftermath. they are fearing from what is going to happen after publishing such news because he was such an important figure personally to the supreme leader and also for the islamic republic in general. what you have been speaking, the news wires have just put out some comments from the supreme leader ayatollah khamenei telling iranians not to worry after the president's helicopter accident. those words, not to worry, are you surprised he has said that?— has said that? well, i think it is kind of like _ has said that? well, i think it is kind of like may _

has said that? well, i think it is kind of like may be _ has said that? well, i think it is kind of like may be self- has said that? well, i think it is| kind of like may be self soothing methods because ebrahim raisi is such an important figure for him himself, he has been so loyal and so important to him. he has shown, raisi, his loyalty to the supreme leader in numerous occasions including the bloody crackdown on peaceful protests in 2021. he was counting on him becoming his successor and he was counting on him actually to make the situation less turbulent after his death because he is 85 years old and he has been ill for many years now. he was counting on him to make it through nice and quiet when he passes away and i think it is really saddening for

him. if we are going to compare it, i could only say it is like when he lost his predecessor in the attack by us forces, it is so important to him for sure by us forces, it is so important to him forsure —— by us forces, it is so important to him for sure —— soleimani and he is so concerned about what it is going to happen in the future because he is concerned about the legitimacy crisis the islamic republic is facing. he knows that even a very small ignition could bring up all the protests, bring up all the uprisings and he knows about that. again while you have been speaking, a few more lines coming in from what the ron supreme leader said —— iran. he expressed hope the officials would return safely to the nation, requesting prayers for them and assured the iranian people not to worry because there would be no issues in running the country. that taking up your point there is a

know that in the constitution there is a path for this. although they are not prepared for getting back on the track, they are surprised, shocked, but i think it is going to be also quite a challenge for them, there is not going to be much of a scene given the fact that i just mentioned that they just scene given the fact that i just mentioned that theyjust repress people and the population, the opposition and the dissidents' population, they need time to recover. so there won't be a huge protest going on but they fear that, absolutely. protest going on but they fear that, absolutel . ., , protest going on but they fear that, absolutel . ., ., , ., ~ , ., absolutely. roqayeh raisi, thank you ve much absolutely. roqayeh raisi, thank you very much for— absolutely. roqayeh raisi, thank you very much forjoining _ absolutely. roqayeh raisi, thank you very much forjoining us _ absolutely. roqayeh raisi, thank you very much forjoining us here - absolutely. roqayeh raisi, thank you very much forjoining us here on - absolutely. roqayeh raisi, thank you very much forjoining us here on bbc| very much forjoining us here on bbc news. if you are justjoining very much forjoining us here on bbc news. if you arejustjoining us, let me remind you of the breaking news in the last couple of hours. there has been a helicopter accident in iran and the president and

foreign minister were on board the helicopter which has, what state tv called, had a hard landing. now, these are the pictures of the helicopter before it took off. now, it was taking off from an event that the iranian president had been at, opening a dam on the border with iran and azerbaijan and this is the image of it up in the air. we don't know for sure that this is the actual helicopter that the president and foreign minister were on but we are assuming that it is. now, rescue teams are of course on the way to the site. now, this area, as you can see, has got lots of heavy fog at the moment and also it has been raining and it is in a mountainous area which means that it is making it very difficult for the rescue

teams to get to the accident site. as with all of these situations, it is a developing situation... hello and welcome to sportsday with me 0lly foster. it's a fantastic four in a row for manchester city, champions once again after beating west ham. arsenal went down fighting to the very end, getting the win they needed but eventually falling two points short. klopp era is over at liverpool, it's an emotional end to the season at anfield. also coming up on sportsday... celtic have completed the league double, with their women's team champions of scotland for the first time. and max verstappen is back on the top step, holding off a late charge from lando norris to win the emilia romagna grand prix.
6:38 pm
good evening, well come along. manchester city have made history, the first side in the top division of english football to win four titles in a row. there were a few nerves, but their 3—1 win over west ham meant that arsenal's late winner over everton couldn't stop them sealing another title. city decade of dominance continues, that's eight premier league crowns in 13 seasons. we'll head live to the etihad and the emirates stadium in a moment, but firstjoe lynskey reports on how the title was won on the final day. the 38th match, the top flight*s last act. in manchester and north london, it would start with possibilities. arsenalface everton

hope again. 1—1 at the emirates and at city, not done yet. to—1 but in this quest for perfection, it was barely a blemish. last year, rhodri scored their champions league winner, now his golf with re—1 had city back on course. no team in top—flight history has won it for might times in a row. it made arsenal's result truly immaterial. some fans there got false reports, if city's match was too high for two, the gunners winner would have been special but as it was just like last season, they come up short to city. it has been like this since 2021. in more than one century of english league football, no team's been this relentless. joe lenski, bbc news. you should never ever question manchester city when they hit april and may. they are a

sky—bluejuggernaut. 0ur correspondent katie gornall is at the etihad stadium. it wasn't straightforward because a goal down in north london, a goal there, it could have got interesting but you just know they have what it takes, don't you, katie, to get over the line? you witness history there. you just know, you're right. they have been selling champions banners, scarves since full—time but in truth, they probably had them ready for weeks. theirfans truth, they probably had them ready for weeks. their fans were confident that today would be the day because they know city have been in this position before and theyjust don't falter, as you say, with the finish line in sight. they are a relentless winning machine and now they have done something unique, they have made history and won four league titles in a row. it is something the past over decades, over a century of ingush football haven't been able to

attain. the likes of huddersfield in the 1920s, the great arsenal team in the 1920s, the great arsenal team in the 1930s, liverpool, that a team of the 1930s, liverpool, that a team of the 1980s that enjoyed so much success and of course manchester united's teams under sir alex ferguson in that area, they were never able to go more than three titles in a row. city have managed that and it is history made here at the etihad. 0f that and it is history made here at the etihad. of course, for many outside the city fan base, there is something of a cloud currently over this achievement while those financial charges against the club from the premier league remain unresolved. it has been more than one year since they were hit with hundred and 15 allegations of breaching premier league financial rules, charges they strongly deny and there seems no hearing confirmed yet. in the meantime, city will get their hands on this trophy, they might get their hands on another one next weekend. they take on manchester united in the fa cup final hoping to become the first team to complete a double domestic

double. . ., , team to complete a double domestic double. ., . , ., double. katie, many thanks indeed. not lona double. katie, many thanks indeed. not long now _ double. katie, many thanks indeed. not long now before _ double. katie, many thanks indeed. not long now before manchester- double. katie, many thanks indeed. | not long now before manchester city will get their hands on the trophy. i'm notjust watching my monitor here and that trophy lifting is probably going to take place in the next five minutes or so and we will hopefully bring you that towards the end of the sportsday. let's head to the emirates stadium, our correspodnent joe wilson is there. a very different mood i'm guessing but they went down fighting, six wins in a row, great character to get the win over everton afterfalling behind, but they came up short again. they kept city honest and that is a key thought people have mentioned to me at the end of the match that key thought people have mentioned to me at the end of the math_ me at the end of the match that they ke -t the me at the end of the match that they kept the title — me at the end of the match that they kept the title race _ me at the end of the match that they kept the title race interesting - me at the end of the match that they kept the title race interesting for - kept the title race interesting for all of us, kept manchester city honest. people are aware of those financial investigations that katie referenced in her interviewjust now. in terms of what happened here today, one fan referred to it as a roller—coaster. i'm not quite sure if it was really that, it was only a seesaw and that hope arsenal began the afternoon with seemed strong at

half—time with west ham having scored their goal in manchester and with the score here being 1—1. now, it was tough for arsenal to break down everton today we came into this game with a lot of formed themselves, it wasn't until later in themselves, it wasn't until later in the game that arsenal scored the winning goal but at least from arsenal's point of view, they can say they did all they could do today. they took care of their business, won their match. looking at the longer term, broader picture, there is a real sense amongst arsenal supporters that they have made progress this season and if you look at the key players in their team from the defenders through to declan rice through to their forwards, all those players, 26 years old or younger. that is the basis for a great squad i think going forward. 0ne basis for a great squad i think going forward. one question this summer, will this club bring in a high—profile striker? a few supporters would definitely like that, made that could been first rather than second next season. that is another story _
6:45 pm
rather than second next season. that is another story altogether but, yes, two points at the difference this season, they are getting closer. joe wilson, many thanks indeed. there were a couple of other live issues on the final day with teams looking to secure european football next season. tottenham needed just a point at sheffield united to make sure they stay fifth. they won 3—0. dejan kulusevski scored twice, pedro porro the other. that means tottenham have qualified for the europa league next season. chelsea will also be playing in europe. they beat bournemouth 2—1 to finish sixth. they will have to wait until after the fa cup final next weekend, before finding out if that is good enough for the europa league or the uefa europa conference league. if manchester city beat manchester united, it will be the europa league. luton are officially down, they needed a huge win over fulham to have any chance of staying up, coupled with a big defeat for nottingham forest. neither of those things happened. they lost 4—2 to fulham sojoin sheffield united and burnley in going down, the same three that came up last season.
6:46 pm
nottingham forest made doubly sure of their survival by winning 2—1 at burnley. chris wood scored twice in the first half. they finish 17th, it was 16th last season. they won't want it to go down to the wire next season. after nine years at liverpool jurgen klopp signed off with victory in his final game in charge. they beat wolves 2—0 in what was always going to be an emotional afternoon at anfield. there was nothing riding on the game so it was all about saying farewell to the man who brought the club its first top division title in 30 years — amongst a total of eight trophies in nine seasons, from winning the european cup in madrid against tottenham, to an fa cup triumph and two league cups — one of which was back in february — to name but a few. he doesn't sign off with some silverware as well. —— he does sign

off. and a third placed finish this season means that the incoming arne slot will inherit a club in a pretty good place, with champions league football to look forward to. here are all the final day results in the premier league newcastle united 4—2 winners at brentford. manchester united's forgettable season ending with a 2—0 win at brighton. bizarre end to the season for villa, qualifying for the champions league but losing 5—0 at crystal palace. albeit a very strongly finishing crystal palace. and the all—important table for 2023—2024. manchester city champions again, their domination of the premier league continues, they fell short in europe this season but they can still complete the double with the cup final coming up next weekend. newcastle finished seventh, that might be enough for european football, they need city to win the fa cup. and down at the bottom, it's as you were.
6:48 pm
luton not getting the miracle they needed, the bottom three all losing today on the way back down to the championship. we've had the final three games in the scottish premiership and it's ross county who will have to play in the relegation play—off after finishing 11th in the table. they could only draw at home to aberdeen and stjohnstone held onto beat motherwell 2—1, and that saw them jump above county on goal difference ross county will face championship side raith home and away to decide which plays in the premiership. already relegated livingston drew with hibs. celtic women have won their first scottish women's premier league title. they thought they'd blown it but a 90th minute winner from amy gallacher, whose great grandfather was the club legend patsy gallacher, saw them beat hibs1—0 and that saw them finish above rangers

on goal difference. rangers did all they could, getting the win they needed, 4—0 against partick thistle, but news of that late, late celtic winner meant it was all in vain. and there is the top of the table. both sides finish on 82 points with identical records and both with incredible goal difference, with each scoring well over 100 goals in the season, but celtic 13 goals better off so take the title. last year's champions glasgow city were a long way off in third. crawley town have been promoted to league one after beating crewe alexandra 2—0 in the league two play—off final at wembley. crawley thrashed mk dons 8—1 on aggregate to reach wembley and went ahead through danilo 0rsi. crawley only avoided being relegated from football league by a whisker last season but with a few minutes left, liam kelly confirmed that they'lljoin stockport,

wrexham and mansfield in promotion to league one. let's have a quick look at some of the other stories making the headlines today. emma raducanu has withdrawn from this week's french open qualifying saying she'll skip the rest of the clay court season to make sure she's fit for her wimbledon preparations and the rest of the year. the 2021 us open champion hasn't played since losing in the first round of the madrid 0pen last month. and alexander zverev is an atp masters 1000 champion for the sixth time. the german moved past first—time finalist nicolas jarry 6—4, 7—5 earlier today to win the title in rome for a second time. to basketball, where the london lions completed a clean sweep of trophies by beating newcastle eagles 92—65 in the final at the o2 arena to win the women's british basketball league play—offs, the highest—ever score recorded in a final in this league.

max verstappen is back on top of podium. he led from start to finish in this afternoon's emilia romagna grand prix. the red bull had struggled in practice and verstappen had only just topped the time sheets in qualifying, but the world champion was imperious around the imola circuit. lando norris, who won the last race in miami, was second for mclaren, with gthe ferrari's of charles leclerc and carlos sainz 3rd and 4th. warrington wolves are into the challenge cup final after thumping huddersfield giants by 46—10. warrington were in control for most of the match and matt williams ran almost the whole length of the pitch to give them an 18—point lead at half—time. four more tries followed after the break with two for matt dufty. warrington will play 20—time winners wigan in the final at wembley onjune 8th. leeds rhinos beat wigan

34—20 in their women's challenge cup semi—final. it was level at half—time but ruby enright scored a try in each half for leeds who ran away with the match after the break. they'll play rivals st helens for the trophy who've beaten them in the last two finals. england's women completed a 3—0 t20 series win over pakistan at headingley. the player of the match was england's danni wyatt who scored 87 off 48 balls, making the most of being dropped three times. she was closing in on a century before holing out. england set pakistan 177 for victory and though the tourists made a solid start and only lost four wickets, they were always going to fall short — england won by 3a runs. the two sides will now play three one—dayers. to the boxing, great drama last
