hello and welcome to sportsday — i'm gavin ramjaun. arsenal on fire at the emirates — the gunners blow chelsea away to go three points clear at the top of the premier league. the upsets keep coming at the world snooker championship, mark williams the latest to be knocked out in a final frame decider. and surf*s up for the man who could well have broken own record — riding some seriously big waves. hello there, and welcome along to the programme. arsenal proved just why they're

the team to catch out in front, at the top of the premier league after thrashing london rivals chelsea 5—0 at the emirates. leandro trossard fired the gunners into action — opening the scoring inside the first five minutes. it stayed like till after half time, when the floodgates opened with four goals in quick succession. ben white with two — and kai havertz also on the scoresheet twice against his former club. a real statement of intent from mikel arteta's side — who are now three points clear of second—placed liverpool, with manchester city four points behind — but have two games in hand. the team when they came and they had a really good impact, from the beginning we looked really sharp, really aggressive about the ball, really composed and flowing in attack as well and yeah, i think i thought we would be short have time, we went and i'm really happy.

in10, 15 minutes in the second half, the third goal i think we give up and worst for them, they start to suffer to go to the end of the game. manchester united boss erik ten hag has claimed their fa cup semifinal scare against championship side coventry city wasn't embarassing — and called the press reaction to his side's win *a disgrace*. united were criticised after letting a 3—0 lead slip, and needed a penalty shoot—out to get through. ten hag also praised his record in cup competitions — with united facing rivals manchester city again, in the final next month. is it embarrassing? no. the reaction from you was embarrassing. talk to us about results. we made it to the final. and we deserved it. we were very lucky in the end, clear, the penalty was very good and we made to the final, and that is huge achievement. twice in two years. it's magnificent.

for me as a manager, four cup finals in four years, and so the comments are a disgrace. feyenoord boss arne slot is said to be one of the leading men, to take over from jurgen klopp at liverpool at the end of the season. the 45—year—old led the dutch side to the eridivisie title last season — and won this season's dutch cup. no decision has been made as to who will succeed klopp at anfield yet. the liverpool boss said injanuary he would leave after nine years at the helm. the pgmol say they will let nottingham forest hear the audio recordings from the exchange between the referee and var stuart attwell during sunday's controversial game at everton — but only in private for now. the club questioned the integrity of attwell after their defeat at goodison. in a social media post they accused attwell of being a luton supporter, who are forest's relegation rivals. the football association and premier league are set to take action over forest's public response. it's another var controversy in a season that's had its fair share.

so controversy in the football as is the case in the nba. lebronjames stormed out of a press conference, after his la lakers side narrowly lost to the denver nuggets in the second match of the first round of the play—offs. the lakers lost 101—99 but james and his team—mates were unhappy about the decision to overturn a foul on d'angelo russell during the match. the lakers gave up a 20 point lead as the nuggets went 2—0 up in the series. and after the match lebron*s frustration was directed at the officiating. i don't understand what's going on in the replay center, to be honest. i think i said it this year or last year, or whatever. d'lo clearly gets hit in the face on a drive. why the bleep do we have everyplace enter? it doesn't make sense to me. i am sorry i did not answer your question, but... and then i just saw what happened with the 6ers—knicks

game too. what are we doing? clearly u nha ppy clearly unhappy there. the upsets keep coming at the world snooker championship in sheffield. the three time winner mark williams is the latest seed to be knocked out. he was beaten 10—9 by the 21—year—old chinese qualifier — si jah—wee of china in a thrilling deciding frame at the crucible. si made the semi—finals on his debut last year and will now face jakjones in the second round whilst williams is unsure if he will return to play at the world championships again. i will be 50 years of age next year. so we have to make the most of it while you can and i have loved every minute of it. i wish i could have one but i have to take my hat off to him. what a break that was. they are not many players that could make that break with that pressure.
1:51 am
so i think he will definitely be a future world champion. ding junhui and jack lisowski put on a great exhibition in the first session of their first round match. many predicted that this would be the tie of the round and so far it hasn't disappointed. lisowski — who's ranked 17th in the world, just has his nose in front at five frames to four. plenty of time for 2016 runner up ding to fight back. they resume later on wednesday. bmx star kieran reilly will be hoping to emulute some of that success. he's hoping to add olympic gold to his collection — after becoming the british man to become bmx freestyle park world champion last year. although he hasn't qualified for the paris games yet — he's been training for the last three years as part of the plan. tom williams has more. yeah, the thing that, like, made me fall in love with the sport was the adrenaline rush of it. like, when you're a kid, you're constantly looking for that next rush and learning a trick. you haven't got the fear when you're a kid. so i took a lot more crashes,
1:52 am
probably a lot better than i would now. and when you finally get a trick after that, like, it's like a pride feeling, you know? and i just fell in love with that. bmx freestyle not only has its risks but also a wow factor too. kieran currently is the best in the business, the reigning world and european champion. i mean, like, ifeel like my bike's like a part of my body at this point. i'm on it so much, so it is a sport that people tend to be, like, intimidated by. they don't want to start because they see the level that it's at now, but it's something you pick up so quickly. just 22, he moved to corby from gateshead four years ago to train with other members of the british team. not shy of a trick or two, he became the first rider in the world to land a triple flair. going up a quarter pipe, doing three back flips, rotating 180 degrees to then come down the same quarter pipe. drastically underestimated the trick and went on a mental journey that i'd
1:53 am
never expected. never had a feeling like it. i'm hoping paris gold comes close, but that was like a mentalfeeling. kieren hasn't officially qualified for the olympics yet. he should do that over the next couple of months. all being well, he'll head there as one of the favourites. it's once every four years, and i know when i go there, i'm leaving nothing on the table and i'm going for the top spot. he'll be one to watch on his olympic debut. kieran certainly is worth watching. tom williams, bbc news. he's got the moves, hasn't he. germany's sebastian steudtner holds the world record for the largest wave surfed by a man. his ride back in portugal in 2020 measured 26.21 metres or 86 feet. but he's now awaiting confirmation that he might have bettered it at the same location — by over two metres. i started three years ago after setting the first world record and realising that

as an athlete, i could surf bigger waves but the equipment and online side and the team and the way we approach the sport was not there yet. we went scientifically looking at the waves and our equipment and the standing data and understanding what was going on and worked our way into building the equipment, installing the mindset that it is possible and then waiting for the waves. in february, the waves finally came and my team and myself made it happen. the one place in the world we identified in the last decade as the place which holds the biggest waves is in portugal, a little fishing village and it has underwater canyon which funnels the swell created by the storm and so basically created a freak wave, the waves that sink the ship in the atlantic.

like that but on the coast. i will make sure the dreams are big, i love the feeling, the sensation of putting it all together and putting it on the line and seeing what happens. monster waves. a reminder of your top story before we go — arsenal are three points clear at the top of the premier league a comprehensive 5—0 thrashing of chelsea at the emirates stadium. the gunners scored four in the second half, with two from former chelsea man kai havertz, for another boost to their goal difference over their rivals liverpool and manchester city who play this week. you can get all the latest sports news from the bbc sport app, orfrom our website — that's bbc.com/sport. we will see you soon.

hello there. it's not a particularly inspiring weather story at the moment, is it? but we still got that west—east divide across the country. on tuesday, we had the highest temperatures across south wales with 16 degrees, and there was some glorious sunshine at times with a little bit of shelter from the breeze. but out the east, it was disappointingly cool. a brisk northerly wind, temperatures struggled — only around seven degrees across the east yorkshire coast. we're going to keep quite a lot of cloud as well over the next few hours that will prevent temperatures from falling too far. lowest temperatures to start the day on wednesday morning will be in the far north and west of scotland. we could have some thicker cloud and a little bit of drizzle first thing wednesday morning, easing away from south wales and south—west england. but again, west will be best in terms of sunshine. a brisk northerly wind feeding in cloud from time to time,

few scattered showers, and keeping those temperatures pegged back to single figures. so a top temperature of nine degrees along east coast, further west we'll see 12 or 13 degrees. now, clear skies will continue through wednesday evening and overnight, and that's going to allow those temperatures to fall away to low single figures. so thursday morning, perhaps a chilly start quite widely across the country. and temperatures low enough in rural areas further north and west for a touch of frost, so gardeners and growers take note. but into thursday, this little weather front here could introduce a slight change. it will certainly bring more in the way of cloud as we go through the latter stages of the morning into the afternoon, and maybe some dribs and drabs of showery rain pushing its way steadily south. so there'll be more cloud a little bit further west, and the temperatures really disappointing for the end of april, 9—13 degrees once again. moving out of thursday
1:58 am
into friday, sees low pressure starting to push in from the south. that will introduce some wetter weather across central and southern england, but potentially a little less cold. so as we close out the month of april, perhaps temperatures in the south back to where they should be for the time of year. but don't expect anything dry, settled and sunny. it's going to stay pretty unsettled. but we could see temperatures back up into the mid—teens for some.
