are making their way from the cell phone world and coming to virtual reality headsets. meta executive mark zuckerberg says his company will offer its virtual reality operating system called meta horizon to hardware companies like lenovo and microsoft. what it means for consumers is new headsets that run on the same software and operating system as meta's own headsets, the quest three and the quest pro. mr zuckerberg talked about wanting customers to be able to run content on quest or any meta horizon operating system headset. that's akin to android's flexibility to integrate with other products. in contrast, he characterized apple's ios models as being closed. that is only functioning with other apple or apple enabled products. apple is offering its headset the vision pro for 3,500 usd and that's expected to remain the costlier product. but the entrance of new products into the field and at

different price points could threaten to give apple a run for its money. meanwhile, tesla's shares hit a 15—month low in the monday trading session on wall street, after the company announced price cuts for its cars in several key markets. it also lowered the price of its premium driver all this comes just ahead of the ev—maker*s quarterly results tonight.0ur business reporter david wadell takes a look at what to expect. it's proving to be a tricky period for tesla. its shares have fallen by around 40% since the beginning of the year. and last week its big boss, elon musk, told us workforce he would cut their numbers by 10%. that impliesjob losses in the region of 14,000. in recent days, mr musk postponed a planned trip to india. this week, he was due to meet the prime minister, narendra modi and reveal plans to enter the south asian market. on his own social media platform, x,
12:32 am
mr musk revealed that unfortunately very heavy tesla obligations require the visit to india be delayed, but he looked forward to visiting later this year. mr musk may face tough questions later when tesla releases its latest quarterly results. at the beginning of the month, it emerged that the company's vehicle deliveries declined in the first quarter of 2024 for the first time in nearly four years. the company is cutting the price of its full self—driving software in the united states by a third from 12000 to 8000. and it's slashing its vehicle prices in multiple markets with new price cuts announced in china. now it's facing stiff competition there from the likes of byd, the saic motor corporation, and potentially new entrants like smartphone maker tommy. like smartphone maker tiomi. tesla will find it tough to compete with these producers on price, but it can't ignore the threat from rivals and notjust in the chinese market, but right around the world. tiktok was first put on the hot set in the us over the weekend. tiktok was first put on the hot seat in the us over the weekend. now, the european union says it

could suspend social media giant's new rewards programme which pays users to spend time on the app. for more on the story, i'm joined now by our business reporter monica miller. i'm joined now by our business 0r i'm joined now by our business what more can you about or what more can you tell us about tiktok light? it or what more can you tell us about tiktok light?— about tiktok light? it takes less data — about tiktok light? it takes less data and _ about tiktok light? it takes less data and space, - about tiktok light? it takes i less data and space, basically, on your smartphone. it launched this task and rewards programme in sprints and spain last week, it essentially rewards people for points watching videos and performing tasks on it, however the head of the european commission has argued that it is toxic and addictive, especially to minors, and really could impact their mental health. so they said that tiktok had actually missed an 18th of april deadline to offer a risk assessment of this reward programme, so now, if they don't defend it properly by wednesday, this whole programme could be on pause, as early as this thursday. we did hear from tiktok that sent a statement to the bbc and said they were disappointed with this decision and they also

it's celebrating the lifting of duties imposed by what was its most valuable customer, china. but rebuilding a booming trade will take time. oh, i think there'll be a lot of work. and the chinese industry is so much built on relationships as well. and having that time out of the market has meant that other people have stepped into those gaps that we left. so rebuilding those relationships will be a huge part of getting back into china. big challenges remain, even though the tariffs are being lifted. the diplomatic row between beijing and canberra cost australia its biggest overseas wine market. the value of its exports to china fell from more than $600 million at their peak to just under $7 million last year. but here in the hunter valley, there is a determination to try to claw back
12:36 am
much of what was lost. a consequence of china's restrictions is a huge glut of wine in australia, estimated to be the equivalent of more than 850 0lympic swimming pools. growers have had to look elsewhere. we've put a bit of effort and time into exploring newer markets such as vietnam, south korea, india and japan. and i think that's been a welcome... i guess a silver lining from the i guess the stress that these tariffs have put on the australian wine industry. despite the tariffs, overall trade has been growing. china has, for example, still relied on australia for iron ore that's used in steel—making. those diplomatic tensions appear to be easing. the chinese foreign minister, when he came, said that the parties should be able to rise above their disagreements. so i think that's really significant.
12:37 am
there's goodwill on both sides and a joint desire to continue to engage and improve the relationship. china knows australian wine. they have a history of buying australian wine and even if it doesn't come back at the size that it was prior to these tariffs, it's still great news for the australian wine industry. and winemakers like to think that their glass is half full and not half empty. phil mercer, bbc news in the hunter valley. to the world of cryptocurrency now. as mandated in the bitcoin code, about every four years the currency network will slash its reward to miners. this practice — known as halving, took place last friday. that's the fourth time it's been done since bitcoin was launched back in 2009. i spoke to crypto researcher molly white and asked her what exactly the halving process entails and about its impact on miners. bit rewards to minors have decreased by half since

previously, and there has been some impact on minorsjust in the fact they are getting half as many reports, for a few days will make a huge impact but it's likely to make a much larger impact as time goes on, there wasn't too much movement in the big corn press, which i think was to be expected. the impact from the having was, i think the days of the bitcoin having have maybe gone by as these rewards have dwindled over time, these rewards have dwindled overtime, bitcoin these rewards have dwindled over time, bitcoin markets have begun to follow traditional markets far more than what they once did. ., ., ., , ., once did. traditionally what would happen _ once did. traditionally what would happen when - once did. traditionally what would happen when these l would happen when these occurrences happen, does it follow the usual demand and supply? follow the usual demand and su -l ? . follow the usual demand and su . .l ? ., ., , follow the usual demand and suul? ., supply? that was the theory at least, supply? that was the theory at least. and _ supply? that was the theory at least, and people _ supply? that was the theory at least, and people have - supply? that was the theory at least, and people have looked| least, and people have looked at the bitcoin price chart and it sort of correlated price increases with the bitcoin

helpings in the past, so there's really hard to say what extent that is a causative event, that it is what caused the price increases and to what extent it was merely coordinated the last correlated. the last time it happened was at the very beginning of the covid—19 pandemic which sparked major demand in risky assets including bitcoin, and so to blame price increases on the halving, ratherthan blame price increases on the halving, rather than conditions of the time is maybe not so wise. historically, prices have gone up when bitcoin has gone through the halving, whether or not that will remain true this time i think remains to be seen. * ., ., *, time i think remains to be seen. ., ., *, seen. before we go, let's take a look how the _ seen. before we go, let's take a look how the us _ seen. before we go, let's take a look how the us markets - a look how the us markets closed on the monday session. all of the major industries in the green there. tech is top as we get results from meta, tesla
