that and saw the germans through 3—1 on aggregate. a 1—1 draw on the night, and they will face roma in the semifinals. we knew that west ham was going to come with heightened power, high intensity, but we couldn't deal very well with that, we were not comfortable on the pitch, we had problems, losing some balls and it was not easy, after considering the first goal, we were lacking and conceded the second one so that was probably the best part of the first half. and the second one, it was completely different, i think we came back, we showed character, we made a few changes that had a very good impact and we have seen a better team. so, west ham and liverpool both go out but there will be one english team in the semifinals of a european competition but aston villa did it the hard way. they beat lille on penalties after drawing 3—3 on aggregate. lille thought they were going through when they led 2—0

on the night and 3—2 on aggregate but villa equalised three minutes from time to take it to spot kicks. villa will now play olympiacos in the final four after they beat fenerbahce on penalties. the match was level on aggregate after extra time. the other semifinal sees fiorentina taking on club brugge. to texas, where golf�*s first women's major of the season is very much up and running at the chevron championship, but there's been a surprise early contender setting the pace. world number 94 lauren coughlin has hit the ground running on the opening day, going round in six under par after her first round. that leaves her two shots clear of fellow american and world number 147 marina alex. post—round, coughlin admitted home comforts had really helped her play her best golf. you had two changes at four championship, if i remember your husband on the bag and the putter. how do you think those two changes have kind of propelled you a little bit? yeah.

he'll now face the world number 53 facundo diaz acosta. britain's cameron norrie is also into the last eight. he beat roberto bautista agut in straight sets to set up a finalfour tie against argentina's tomas martin etcheverry. the victory, which came in less than 1.5 hours, was norrie�*s 200th tour win of his career. the england and wales cricket board has announced eight counties that will host professional women's teams as part of a major restructure of the domestic game from 2025. the plans will see the creation of a three—tiered domestic competition structure which the ecb says could lead to an 80% increase in professional women's players in england and wales by 2029. durham, essex, hampshire, lancashire, nottinghamshire, somerset, surrey and warwickshire have all been awarded tier1 status whilst glamorgan and yorkshire join them in 2027.

it's really all in this country, it means more investment. it means a properly aligned men's and women's system. and i think the regional games be brilliant, but i think what has been missing has been that chance to have equal access all the time at one club. and i think commercially it's going to be really good hopefully for the women's game as well. and the draw for the world snooker championship has been made with ronnie 0'sullivan taking onjackson page in the opening round as he tries to win a record eighth title at the crucible. meanwhile, luca brecel will begin the defence of his title against david gilbert while the 2019 winnerjudd trump faces hossein vafaei. this year's championships take place once again at the city's crucible theatre but eddie hearn, the chairman of the organisers of the event, says he cannot guarantee the venue will continue to be hosted there after its current deal runs out in 2027. it would have to take an opportunity that would be difficult for us to refuse for the players, notjust for the business, but for the players.

and if there was an opportunity to drastically change the price structure of the world championships and this is eddie hearn speaking, not world snooker speaking for me, you have to look at that in terms of opportunities for the talent. there will be aggressive markets and saudi arabia might be one of them where they will make a huge play to bring the flagship event to the kingdom. i'm at a loss in the sense that i love the game. i know the sort of history of the sport, but times change and the sport needs to grow and evolve. so, unless the crucible can find some way of holding more people, then i think it's inevitable that it moves. i'm not one that's going to be pushing for it to move. i love the crucible and i love the atmosphere and there's a lot of history attached, but it might need to move away from the crucible and that's a sad state of affairs.

we get to the end of the day. quite a range of temperatures, too, just eight celsius in aberdeenshire with that northerly wind but 15 celsius across the southwest of england. now, as we head through friday night, the skies will clear, and away from north sea facing coasts, which stay rather cloudy and breezy, then we could again see a touch of frost with temperatures dropping back to low single figures, so another chilly start to the weekend. now, the weekend — a lot of dry weather. in fact, it is looking mostly dry, we'll see some rain across scotland, and there will be quite a bit of cloud around at times, especially towards the east, and a bit of east west split in terms of temperature. with that high pressure over us, we're drawing in quite a chilly north—easterly wind, so those north sea facing coasts so here it is always going to feel cooler and there will be quite a lot of cloud around as well, the north sea really quite cold at this time of year,

so west is best in terms of sunshine amounts and temperature, certainly. now, as we head through saturday, there's a warm front gradually easing its way across the far north of scotland, this will bring some cloud, some outbreaks of rain. further south, it is largely dry but cloudy, drizzly perhaps towards north sea facing coasts. best of the sunshine out towards the west, we'll get to 1a or 15 celsius perhaps here. some of the cloud could break up a little further eastwards, too, and that is also true on sunday, but temperatures towards these eastern coastal areas will really struggle to get much past eight or nine celsius. compare that to further west where in parts of northern ireland we could get to 17 degrees perhaps, feeling warmer here.
