hello there. everton are going to appeal against their latest sanction for a second breach of the premier league's profitability and sustainability rules — they've been deducted 2 points after going 16 million pounds over the spending limit over a three year period up to the end of last season. from goodison park, here's our correspondent, katie gornall. well, the premier league had wanted this to be a five—point deduction, but an independent commission settled on two points, taking into account mitigating factors. still, everton say they will appeal. in the meantime, they've slipped to 16th in the table, two places above the relegation zone with seven games to play. they were found to have breached the rules by more than £16 million for the accounting period up tojune 2023. it follows a six—point deduction they were handed earlier in the season, reduced from ten on appeal for a separate breach in the previous

accounting period. and everton fans won't want to hear this, but there could be a further points deduction to come in relation to costs around the financing of their new stadium at bramley—moore dock. although that scenario is unlikely to be resolved before the end of the season, raising further the prospect of a contentious end to this current campaign, particularly if sean dyche*s side survive by a small margin. the first of the champions league quarter—finals are coming up on tuesday. we've heard from the managers and a few of the players. the stand out match sees the european champions manchester city take on the 14—time winners real madrid once again. they met at the semi—final stage last season with pep guardiola's side going through 5—1 over the two legs. the first leg is again at the bernebeu, where they drew 1—1 before city ran riot at the etihad. that was the start of their current 10—match winning run in the champions league. we are a more mature team.

we have experience of winning this competition and we came here with a different mentality with more composure and to be fair, we know that nothing is going to be done tomorrow and we need to have a good result because we know how tough it is here and i see and i wish and hope that the experience of winning this tournament gives us tomorrow the confidence to do things right. real madrid will hope that jude bellingham could prove the difference this time round. the england midfielder is the joint top scorer in spain in his debut season in la liga after signing from borussia dortmund. at the beginning i was a bit surprised because i didn't know much about him, to be honest. but wow, he is a big personality already. in our lockeroom. and this is massive.
2:48 am
if you talk to him you feel like he has already seen everything in life. i am not surprised any more. the premier league leaders arsenal are at home to bayern munich in the first leg of of their quarterfinal. the gunners are in a three—way battle for the title with city and liverpool. and though bayern are struggling domestically they are 6 time european champions and the arsenal manager won't underestimate them. big fan of thomas. he sees the way they play and settle and looking at analysing deeply and you'll see why are a top team. we have prepared very well and we have to take our game where we want it and if we do that, we'll have a chance to win. we will try to be the team who find solution against them and it not premier league, it's european competition
2:49 am
and the style is a bit different to the premier league and we have more experience in that competition and this is how we are going to start it but full credit to the staff and the whole club how they transformed this team, it is amazing. inter milan are closing in on the serie a title. they are now 14 points clear with seven games left to play after beating relegation threatened udinese, but it wasn't easy. they were 1—0 down at halftime and needed an injury time winner from davide frattesi — 2—1 the final score. inter have only lost once in the league this season and that was back in september. there are more qualifiers on tuesday for next year's women's euros, england are the defending champions and face the republic of ireland in dublin, they'll have their captain leah williamson back for the first time in 12 months. the arsenal defender hasn't featured for the lionesses since rupturing knee ligaments. that saw her miss england's run to the world cup final in australia. she was an unused

substitute in friday's i—i draw with sweden. it has been a difficultjourney. this is, i would be lying if i said this was not the thing that i have my focus on. this is where i wanted to get back to, i wanted to get back in the squad. i have some of the best memories of my life as part of this team. golf's first major of the season — the masters starts on thursday — the first time this year that all the world's best golfers will be competing together. many of them now play on breakaway liv tour, including the reigning masters championjohn rahm, who made the move in december. his defection made a huge impact but he thinks that there is now less animosity between the two tours i think the landscape looks very different than it did last year. in my transition, i expected, obviously, a number of people to not be happy with it. i didn't get the criticism

a lot of people did. his excellency, the pg board have had a meeting. there have been some discussions that have been there in the past. and if anything we're closer to some type of unification than ever. zainab alema is a former neonatal nurse who quit her job to pursue a dream of playing rugby. as a muslim woman she initially found it difficult to fit in, but now hopes that she's made it easier for others to follow the path she's taken. she's been sharing her story with our reporter srosh khan. commentator: delivering the match ball this evening is zainab alema. she's out to smash stereotypes in rugby. zainab alema is making her mark. this was her ahead of the england match against south africa at last year's world cup. she's breaking down barriers and opponents in a sport played by few muslim women. there's probably

other muslim women that want to play sport — and might not even be rugby — or want to do something, step out of their comfort zone or step out of the box that society puts us in. and i think it's really important to be the change you want to see. i want to leave a legacy. like, that's just something i've built in me. what you bring to the table when you're a rugby player — you know, the physicality, the mental strength, the resilience — i feel a lot of those qualities you find in a lot of women. the 31—year—old who wears the hijab feels herfaith has played a large part in her identity within the sport. people look at me and definitely they just know that i'm muslim. and i love that and i love that i can bring that to rugby as well. it's that representation i needed to see, whether it's a black woman or muslim woman playing sports i feel like i can relate to and also do the same thing. i ended up finding my space and my sort of identity within rugby and now i'm really much comfortable with that. i don't even think when i step on the pitch at all. she found it difficult

to be herself in the early days. it was me trying to navigate myself as a muslim woman within that space. so things that i was doing was like i wasn't attending any of the social elements. i wasn't really seeing my team—mates outside of the rugby field. with the club that i'm at now, they're so helpful and they're so encouraging and i can go to the bar and order our grey tea, a non—alcoholic drink and have it with my friends and my team—mates. even richmond have even gone as far as offering me a prayer space. so like game days or when i'm at the club when i need to pray, you know, i can pray at the club, which is something that it's been a huge thing for me. what message do you want to send out to other young muslim women? be comfortable in being who you are. well, you know, you're a muslim person and, you know, like that's something to be proud of. you know, whatever space you're in, whether it's sports service business, whether it's academic, wherever you are, be proud of the fact that you are a muslim person and wear badge with honour. the heads of the commonwealth

games hopes to name the 2026 hosts next month. there's been huge uncertainty over the future of the games since the australian state of victoria withdrew last year because of rising costs. singapore and malaysia have both turned down the chance to step in, and if no one does, then will the commonwealths cease to exist? the ceo, kate sadleir is positive that the next games will go ahead. i'm very confident. i mean, i think that they're really exciting. we've been spending quite a bit of time over the last nine months doing quite an intensive discussion about what the future of the games might look like. we always were going to do that. we have a new strategic plan. we launched it last year and we it was about resetting and reframing, looking at the games differently and these concepts that have come in give us the opportunity to test some of those concepts as well. so yes, i'm very excited about the opportunities. there is more on that story and the top story about everton being deducted two points. you can get all the latest

sports news at from the bbc sport app or the website but from me and the rest of the team at the bbc sport centre, goodbye. hello. monday was quite a quiet day of weather, really. we had some sunny spells breaking through the cloud, for example, here in cambridgeshire. and across large parts of england, it was a warm day for april, with temperatures topping out at 19 degrees celsius at kew, in london. these temperatures are around 5 or 6 degrees above average. it's going to be a much cooler kind of day for tuesday. notjust cooler, it's going to be wet and windy for many as well. the change is down to an area of low pressure. this area of cloud you can see swirling to the southwest of the uk and that's essentially pushing northwards and eastwards over the next 12 hours. we already have quite a bit
2:56 am
of rain with us at the moment and the rain across northern ireland and scotland could be heavy enough to cause some localised flooding. 20—40 millimetres of rain, not a huge amount in the grand scheme of things, however, edinburgh, for example, has already had over one and a half times the april average rainfall, even though we're onlyjust over a week into the new month. so this extra rainfall could be enough to cause some localised flooding. the weather will tend to brighten up from the west as we go through the day. sunshine and showers follow our main band of rain through. it's also going to be a windy, gusty kind of day. particularly for england and wales, gusts widely running into the forties of miles now, but could reach around 50 or 60 miles an hour around some coastal areas, with the rain reluctant to clear away from eastern scotland and parts of northeast england. our temperatures are about 10 to 12 degrees for most. that will clear through and we're left with some colder air as we head into the first part of wednesday. potentially chilly enough to give an odd nip of frost for the early part of wednesday morning. should be a fine start to the day with sunshine. then it clouds over with the next weather system
2:57 am
moving in from the west, bringing more rain. now, even as the rain pushes through across wales and southwest england, it probably will stay rather cloudy. the weather that follows. however, it will start to turn a bit milder again with south—westerly winds, temperatures around 13—15 degrees. and that warming trend continues as we head into thursday. again, we've got south—westerly winds with us, but this time after a cloudy start, the clouds should tend to thin and break up and we'll see some spells of sunshine coming through quite widely. yeah, there'll be a few showers for the north and west of scotland, but otherwise it's mostly dry. and those temperatures, 17 for aberdeen, 17 for belfast, but highs could reach around 19 or 20 across parts of eastern england. it stays pretty mild then towards wales and england as we head into the weekend. temperatures could reach the low 20s for some.
