you are watching bbc news coverage of the remembrance day service at the cenotaph in central london. it is the royal british legion that organises an annual march past of many veterans to honour those who have fallen in service of the country in two world wars, and the conflicts that have followed since. this year, that march past will be attended by many more veterans, open to the widest section of the armed forces community, not officially affiliated to the military

community. travelling from as far afield as australia and canada. the oldest two march is a 100—year—old d—day veteran. also, children as young as eight representing charities and organisations associated with the british armed forces. yesterday was armistice day itself, the 11th of november, the country falling silent again for a two—minute silence. today, remembrance sunday, a much more formal affair with the attendance of senior royals and senior officials from government and the world of politics. it has been

at the centre of some dispute this week. there has been a police cordon around large parts of london, particularly the cenotaph, and also horse guards parade. the royal british legion, that organises this, does so every year, to remember fallen military and civilian service personnel. 1927 the first year that remembrance sunday service was first broadcast on television. close to 10,000 will file past the cenotaph today. among them, for the first time, will be those who have been waiting close to 70 years for recognition, for the first time ever those exposed to nuclear bombs during the uk testing programme,
